A letter to the German Chancellor – Leistungskurs Englisch, 12. Klasse

Dear Chancellor,

It is with great interest that I follow the current refugee crisis in Europe and in particular the one in Germany.

I am a 17-year-old student of politics based in London and I would like to take the opportunity to present you some possibilities to manage this crisis in order to reach a successful integration

As you perhaps know, integration is certainly the most important task in this matter. Integration is, however, not the only obligation we have committed to, it is also a challenge for those who were mostly forced to escape from war-devastated countries. For this reason, I think it would be a good idea to offer not only language courses to facilitate integration but to combine this more with a mission. That means, one should connect the participation in language courses with a successful completion of an exam on B2 level for the German language. A candidate who manages to pass this exam level after a stay of two years in Germany does not only prove that he or she has made tremendous efforts to integrate into our society, he has also developed a certain readiness for the labour market.

Another important idea to accelerate integration is perhaps the fact that there are many refugees that speak many languages perfectly like their mother tongue. There are also graduated engineers or fugitives that bring with them other assets one should make use of as there exists an urgent demand for in Germany. Just to give you an example: as far as I am informed, there is a considerable lack of French teachers. Their support is urgently required at schools and private institutions. Furthermore, there is still a large demand for skilled engineers. The German government should therefore particularly facilitate their inclusion into the labour market. I am moreover quite confident that such a measure of mutual enrichment and completion will result in a climate of tolerance, respect and recognition. Values are not generated; they have to be filled up with life.

On the other hand, it is necessary that you keep also focused on refugees who are not willing to integrate or those who become violent. Germany should not become a country where aggressors have a chance to hide easily. For this reason, I feel it will be relevant to still strengthen your contacts to ambassadors of North Africa in order to reach a return of criminals. There must be a clear and comprehensible sign for all those who intend to commit crimes on German soil.

Hopefully, I could give you some reasonable ideas on how to manage the refugee crisis without losing important values like tolerance and sense of justice. I am very grateful for the time you took to read my letter.

I remain respectfully yours.
